Transitioning from conventional make up brands to natural and clean formulated companies has been hard, I am not even going to lie...
I have my trusted favourite big conventional brands that I have been using for years and love, but I have become increasingly conscious of what I am using on my skin and I feel the time is right for me to make the change to clean make up.

Very quickly I discovered that in the UK there are not as many natural clean make up brands and if there are the shade ranges for dark skin is just lacking. Trying to find a foundation has been a nightmare. At times there are no option at all for dark complexions and if there is they seem to think that every person of colour is one shade so only offer one dark skin tone foundation. It is so frustrating, People of colour are a rainbow of different hues and the clean beauty industry are far behind in comparison to the bigger brands in the shade ranges they offer.

Clean beauty brands are starting to pop up on the British high street making it easier for naturalistas to seek out products. I have definitely seen a shift in the clean beauty industry recently in terms of availability and I don’t think it will be too long before major beauty brands start producing clean make-up lines.
Despite the setbacks I have started to change products in my make-up bag. The way I have been transitioning is starting with replacing the make-up that I use the most. Such as lip-gloss, which I wear on a daily basis. I am slowly discovering more brands that offer clean formulas and still do a great job of producing a flawless finish.
Keep reading to see how I achieve my everyday make-up routine.

Skin Preparation
I use Honest Beauty Everything Primer, Matte as the base for my foundation. The matte primer is very effective at controlling the shine around my T-zone, especially on my forehead which becomes very greasy as the day progresses. When I apply my powder foundation on top of the primer it leaves a smooth matte appearance.  There is the perfect balance of a matte finish versus still being moisturised, so my skin is not too dry and dull in appearance. I love that the formula is oil free and it contains many natural ingredients such as bamboo powder. Bamboo powder is full of anti-oxidants that help to prevent skin damage and it also bursting with silica which promotes skin health and a radiant glow.
The formula becomes translucent when the cream is placed onto the skin and it does not require a lot of effort to distribute. On application the primer quickly sinks into the skin with no white residue, which a lot of matte primers can cause, especially when used on dark skin. I would love if the bottle was larger as you only get 30mls for £25 and if you wear make up on a daily basis you would finish the container really quickly.  Despite the price I love that the primer does a great job by preventing shine.

Foundation
I have recently switched my powder foundation to Bare Minerals Bare Pro performance wear powder foundation in the colour Espresso 27. I do not wear make-up on a daily basis and when I do I still like my skin to breathe and feel light, so I do not tend to use my stick or liquid foundations. I am aiming just for medium coverage with the most natural look, most importantly I want to control the shine and a powder foundation achieves this look. I am also really lazy when applying everyday make-up and I can use a powder foundation in a few minutes.
Bare Minerals Bare Pro powder foundation has ninety percent natural ingredients. I really like the finished result with this foundation. It leaves my skin really smooth with minimised pores and it evens out my complexion without that cakey look. I was surprised that the foundation was very long lasting before the shine started to appear. Bare Minerals cosmetic brand is one of the natural companies on the beauty market that have a better shade range for dark skin, offering ten shades for darker skin tones.

Eyes
For the eyes I stick to natural colours on my lids. From The Honest Beauty Everything Eye Shadow Palette I use the colour soft bronze as the base for my lid, which is a nude brown. In the centre of my eye I apply sunlit copper a bronzy glitter shadow. The eyeshadow pallets contains a nice combination of mattes and glitter eyeshadows to create the perfect everyday look as the glitter shadows are not overpowering. This is the perfect pallet if you want to create a natural make-up look.
To finish off my eyes I use my favourite mascara, The Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara and Primer. First you use the primer which helps to separate and thicken the lashes, then you wait for thirty seconds before using the mascara. The mascara creates extremely long and dreamy lashes. Every clean beauty junkie should have this mascara in their make-up bag.
I have noticed that due to the natural formula it does not irritate my eyes or become flaky at the end of the day.

Lips
My everyday make-up routine is not complete without juicy glossy lips. I start off by using Lush Whipstick balm to moisturise my lips in preparation for the lip gloss. With ingredients such as dark chocolate, shea butter and honey you already know this lip balm is going to be fire. I always have Lush’s Whipstick balm around as it instantly revives my lips from crustiness. I then use Lily LoLo in Bitten Pink which is a thick and non-drying formula, hours later this natural lip gloss is still lasting with a nice shine. This particular colour lip gloss also has a shimmer to it making it the perfect transition from day to night. Lily Lolo lip glosses are always in my hand bag at the moment as I just love the formula and staying power, I look forward to re applying and getting that subtle fragrance of cocoa butter as I glide the gloss onto my lips.
