I care a lot about what goes on my skin and the effect it has on my body.... I am slowly replacing old products that contain toxic synthetic formulas in favour of more natural and clean products. To be completely honest it is taking some time to overhaul my entire skincare and make up products, but I am enjoying the process and I am discovering an increasing number of clean beauty brands with some being better than others. Becoming a more conscious consumer also means becoming informed of what skincare products contain and how they effect your body and the environment. In this Hey Bellissimo recommends series I hope to make you guys more aware of clean beauty products that are available on the market if you are looking to make the switch. Even if you start off small, as something as simple as your everyday face moisturiser.
Cinnamon Essential Oil Over the last few months I have been really getting into aromatherapy a few times a week, for the physical effects or to help me to relax at night. Depending on how I am feeling physically or mentally I can select an oil that is tailored for that issue. As my understanding of aromatherapy grows I have become more adventurous in the variety of oils and even oil combining at times. At the moment the flu and cold virus is travelling around so I have been using cinnamon in the mornings in a steamy shower. Cinnamon is especially helpful for treating colds and flus, it also relieves tiredness and cramps. Just a few drops added to the shower with the door closed allows the vapours to fill the bathroom. Cinnamon has a very strong spicy and sweet aroma that immediately wakes me in the morning and leaves me feeling alert and refreshed. Always be mindful when using essential oils to use in moderation and never apply directly to your skin, unless it has been added to a carrier oil such as sweet almond. Cinnamon blends well with frankincense or eucalyptus. Sukin Facial Moisturiser I have been searching for a thick and creamy facial moisturiser to use at night. The search is over since finding this little gem, Sukin Facial Moisturiser. I apply the moisturiser all over my face and neck. The formula gently absorbs into my skin whilst keeping my skin so soft and plump. The moisturiser has a very faint citrus smell as it contains essential oils and extracts, such as grapefruit or mandarin. It is suitable for all skin types and I have had no irritation from the formula on my combination skin. I have also started to use it as my day cream as the weather has become colder and started to dry out my skin. The companies tag line is skincare that doesn’t cost the earth, Sukin have produced an affordable, sustainable and clean product that works extremely well. A common perception of clean beauty is the products won’t work as well as synthetic brands. Let me tell you that is definitely not the case, a lot of the time the products actually work better and you are helping not only yourself but the planet and environment. REN Rosa Centifolia Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser This exfoliating cleanser is so gentle I can use it to scrub my face several times a week. The exfoliating beads are made from jojoba wax. The beads are extremely soft on the skin whilst simultaneously providing enough scrub to leave my skin feeling soft and firm. Facial scrubs are an essential part of the skin care routine, especially if you are over thirty. You only need to apply a small amount of the exfoliating cleanser to cover the entire face, making this product great value for money.
