Whenever I purchase hair extensions I always get curly to kinky textures as I love having big hair when I am protective styling. Last year I bought the Y-O textured hair from The Y-Hair Company which is owned by UK vlogger Patricia Bright.
On receiving the hair I was pleasantly surprised at how thick and soft the bundles were. My hairdresser installed my extension using two bundles of 14ʺ and 16ʺ and a closure of 14ʺ. The two bundles were enough to cover my head fully. Curly hair usually gets bigger as the day progresses so it always appears full and I like to still be able to reach my scalp to add moisture, so I don’t like to wear too many bundles. The maximum bundles I normally wear is two and a half.
The Y-Hair Company uses 100% virgin human hair for all of the collections and Y-O is the curly texture. The Y-O bundles come in a natural black colour. I am usually a colour 1 wearer as I feel dark black hair extensions look the best on me, but the natural colour was fairly dark, so I did not feel that I needed to dye the hair. I also did not wash the hair before installing and I did not experience any itching from the hair track.

What I really love about the Y-O texture is it is very bouncy and it has a nice shine to it. I have used the same hair extensions on two occasions. I was afraid that the hair would start to look scraggly on the second install. However on using the hair for the second time, after washing and conditioning the hair still remained soft and full.

To care for the hair at night I would absolutely recommend placing it into two plaits if you don’t want to look like you have been dragged through a bush backwards. By plaiting the hair it prevents tangling and makes the hair easy to manage in the morning. To bring the hair back to life all you have to do is spritz it with water and those curls start to POP! I like to add Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner to maintain the curls throughout the day. I would care for my scalp by spraying Cantu Coconut Oil Shine & Hold Mist and using Jamaican Black Castor Oil on my edges and the nape of my neck.

Y-O texture is really easy to detangle with a comb or even using your fingers and the shedding was minimal. Overall maintenance was pretty easy, which is what you want when you are protective styling.

A downside to the Y-O texture was that the closure was of a different texture to the bundles, it was not as defined. However once water was added the hair would instantly become more wavy. To maintain this you would have to add a leave in conditioner otherwise the closure would maintain its looser curl pattern.
Another issue I noticed was the hair tended to knot up at the back, even though I would detangle my hair every morning. However I have experienced tangling with other curly hair brands I have used in the past, so I think this is just unavoidable with curly or kinky hair.

I would purchase hair from the Y-Hair Company in the future, but only if they had a sale again. As I am not a naturalista who wears extensions or wigs constantly and I wouldn’t spend that much money on hair extensions. Other than that it is a thumbs up for the Y-O texture. The hair is soft, looks amazing, keeps the curl and it can be used again without losing all of its greatness
.

Any recommendations for kinky or curly hair companies in the UK?

This review is one that I always look back before I buy something. I mean, we have the convenience of the internet, so why not use it right? Whenever I have something to buy, I always check for product reviews online. It is not always accurate, but it does help me make a decision. I think that I learned so much of what I need to do because of it. It has helped me decide the best decision almost all the time.
