I know I am a little late with my Greece travel blog post, three months in fact.

Sorry guys, I was busy enjoying the summer and just living life to post. I am now back to blogging life and I promise to post more often. Greece has to be one of my most favourite European countries to visit. The culture, food and laid back attitude are some of the things that make me want to discover more of Greece. In August I visited Athens over a few days and I was able to explore the capital city and also visit some surrounding islands.
Below are highlights of my time in Athens, which are 5 fab things to do if you are planning on visiting.

1. When I travel I like to be adventurous with my food and I love trying out the local cuisine. There is no point travelling the world and eating Mc Donald’s every day. As usual I got a recommendation from a local and ended up in an amazing restaurant called Kriti. Tucked away in a little alley way this restaurant had truly delicious traditional Greek food and great quality service. The whole décor of the restaurant gave the feel of dining in grandmas cute little kitchen. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in Athens. If bread, cakes and pastries are your thing then Athens will leave you spoilt for choice. The city has so many bakeries selling delicious goodies, including ice cream.

2. The main attraction of Athens is the Acropolis. The ruins are located on a hill looking down onto the city, so at many points around the city you can see this stunning structure. I did not pay to gain entry to the ruins so I am unable to tell you what the experience was like close up. Instead I was able to wonder around the surrounding areas and still get a pretty good view of the sight.

3. On holiday it is always cocktail time for me and what better way to enjoy a cocktail then on a rooftop bar. I was fortunate enough to be staying in the Meliá Athens hotel which had a gorgeous rooftop bar and swimming pool, with nice views of the city including the Acropolis. Sometimes after a long day of sightseeing and exploring the city you just want to stay in your hotel. Night-time was spent at the rooftop bar chilling and catching jokes with great company.

4. Plaka is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Athens but it is also a tourist area where many souvenir shops are located. It is worth a visit as it also has many café and restaurants and it is very near the acropolis, so it’s a great opportunity to take pictures as you wander around the ancient streets.

5. I also had time in my schedule to take a boat trip for the day to the surrounding Islands. The package included visiting the islands of Aegina and Agistri. Clear waters and picturesque beaches made it a magical day. There are limited activities on both islands. Out of the two Aegina has more to do, but the majority of the time I spent relaxing so a day visit is more than enough to see what they have to offer.

Being able to read a travel guide like this very helpful. I do not have enough information before coming here, so I was having a hard time. After reading your travel guide, I was able to explore Athens with ease. I love how thorough you were with the instructions that you wrote, it really helped me a lot in my time here. I would recommend this site of yours to anyone who is going for a quick trip here in Athens.
