For the last six weeks I have been using the Coconut and Monoi intense shine oil mist on my hair whilst it is in a protective style. Even when I am protective styling I still utilise the LOC method to prevent dry and brittle hair.
The shine oil mist contains natural ingredients such as Coconut and Monoi oil. This is my first experience of using a hair product that contains Monoi oil. Monoi oil is sourced from Tahiti and is made by combining the tiare flower with extra virgin coconut oil. Monoi oil has great healing properties and it has been shown to smooth keratin hair fibres resulting in improved quality of hair. Whilst Coconut oil prevents hair loss and helps to retain moisture. It also contains other great ingredients such as Vitamin E, Sunflower oil and Argan oil.
The Coconut and Monoi intense shine oil mist is part of the Design Essentials natural line and the company describe the product as a penetrating oil for instant smoothing and intensive shine. The product also has no harsh chemicals.
The shine oil mist comes in a spray bottle, which was very handy when applying to the scalp. I applied it on damp hair after using a spray leave in conditioner. I used the shine mist on a daily basis by rubbing the product into my scalp, I then used a cream on top. I also concentrated the oil at the nape of my neck. The hair at my nape is a lot shorter than the rest of my head, so it tends to slip out of my protective styles such as canerow extensions or extensions. As a result I make a conscious effort to always apply the LOC method to this part of my head to prevent tangling and fairy knots.
The oil has a really light smell, which is great when your hair is in a protective style and you are not washing it as often and want to avoid the product build up. The spray is also great if you want a light coating to seal in the moisture, so it would be great for type 4 ladies who have fine hair or those who don’t want to be weighed down by heavy oils. For ladies that have thicker type 4C hair I would recommend to use this product in the summer months, as I found the product did not seal in the moisture for as long, especially at the nape of neck. As a results I was having to use the product twice a day due to the harsh London winter weather.
If you already use coconut oil as part of the routine the shine mist may be suitable for you. Let me know if you have tried any products from the Design Essentials Coconut and Monoi line.
