Over the last six months my hair has started to flourish and retain length, this is partly due to sticking to the same wash day routine on a weekly basis when my hair is not in a protective style. I have noticed that I have less shedding of the hair during the week and problem areas like the nape of my neck have grown more. It has taken me a few years to discover the right routine for me with trial and error, but now I feel I have a simple and fairly quick routine using some great products. A lot of the products I use for my wash day routine are from Shea Moisture, I have been using this brand since I returned natural in my transitioning days. Shea Moisture is my favourite hair care line and my hair is always easy to manage and feels so soft when using their products. My hair is usually in a stretched state by the time wash days comes around, so it does not require a lot of finger detangling prior to washing and I can jump straight into the shampoo process. I use The Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo to clean my hair and scalp. I apply and lather the shampoo twice to make sure the product build up is removed. On rinsing out the shampoo I am left with clean hair that is not dry or hard. I then follow up with The Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner. I LOVE this conditioner; it allows me to easily detangle my hair using my hands and provides good slip. To deep condition my hair I use The Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow, and Restore Treatment Mask. Ladies this product will leave your hair feeling extremely soft and moisturised, where you will notice definition of your kinks and coils. Once the treatment mask has been applied I then add my own mix of honey, extra virgin olive oil and Rosemary oil to my hair and distribute the mixture thoroughly by finger detangling. Throughout the entire wash process I am continually detangling my hair; I find that the Shea Moisture products I use allow me to easily detangle my kinky hair. I then separate my hair into four plaits and sit under my Aphrodite Steam Cap for thirty minutes.
I then rinse out each of the four sections one at a time to avoid tangling and apply a 10 pence size amount of The Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner to each section. I then seal in the moisture with Black Jamaican Castor Oil. Finally I flat twist my hair to stretch it and I use As I Am Double Butter Cream as my moisturiser. On removing the twist the next day my hair is very defined and hydrated. Let me know what products you guys are using for your wash day routine. Caron X
