How I Pack When Travelling

I am an organised person by nature. I like everything to be in its rightful place
cups in my house need to be symmetrically aligned and my clothes are all colour co-ordinated. If things are messy and unorganised it gives me anxiety. This applies to packing when I am going away. I don’t understand how people can just throw things in their suitcase or pack the night before and be at ease. My mind would be racing with thoughts of should I bring this or that. Or will I forget to pack that vital item that will make or break my holiday. Ok so packing does not have to be that dramatic, but I do want to share a few tips of mine that make my whole travelling experience a pleasant one from start to finish. For me the moment I start packing it is almost as if the countdown has begun to getting away and making more beautiful memories.

Packing early
So I have just revealed a little bit about my personality, that I like to be organised. So obviously I need to pack at least seven days before I go. There is actually a reason for this madness.            Firstly it gives me time to replace items that I have not worn in ages that have become old or do not fit anymore. Most of my travelling involves climates warmer than the UK weather, so I have a summer wardrobe that might not be seen for several months and needs replacing from the previous trip. I have been away so many times and then realised that my favourite sandal strap is broken and then I’m looking to buy something abroad that I will probably never wear again. Packing early gives me time to shop for replacements.                                                                Also every trip requires toiletries so this will require stocking up on beauty and hair essentials. I just hate rushing around before travelling so early packing for me is a must.

Plan your activities prior to travelling
As a travel blogger I like to get the most out of my trips by immersing myself in the local culture and exploring. I create a list of things to see and do. This does not have to be an hour by hour list, but you can just have some idea of what activities you will be doing prior, so you can pack the appropriate clothes. All my friends and family know I feel the cold really bad, sounding like such a granny now. I need to know if I need a hoodie to prevent the chill in my bones or if the occasion calls for batty riders, a girl needs to know these things. Planning your itinerary and checking the weather forecast will save you from packing unnecessary items.

Beauty and haircare products
Everyone knows the airport is an overpriced rip off when it comes to purchasing your holiday essentials. A great way I save money is keeping hold of all of those miniature samples you get in department stores. Clinique is a skincare company that is great at giving away loads of skincare miniatures when you purchase on their online site. Most of my free samples I keep and use for travelling. Of course if you have not got any free samples just go old school and dispense into travel bottles. It’s not about being broke even before that plane has taxied off the runway. We need to save our coins for the actual holiday.

Packing technique
The way I like to pack is by creating outfit choices for each day. I lay all the clothes I might bring with me out on my bed and then create outfits from the items; this includes shoes, underwear and jewellery. This way of packing has saved me bringing so many unnecessary items and saved me from over packing, yes that dress might be cool but does it even go with any of the shoes you are bringing. Usually I pack two outfits for each day, one for the day and another for night time. This technique definitely stops me from over packing and being over-weight.
Once the outfit choices are sorted I then roll all of my clothes pre-ironed and then pack the outfits together to make things easier to find. Rolling the clothes saves so much space when packing and it also reduces the creases in my clothes. I hate ironing so the less creases the better for me as I avoid as much as possible to iron my clothes whilst I am away.                            Another organisation technique I use when packing, is packing the outfits I created together in the suitcase, rather than them being randomly placed. So I don’t have to remember what item goes with another.

A little extra
I just bring one extra top and bottom as a just in case, I told you I am organised. So many times I have spilt alcohol all over myself or beauty products have busted open in my suitcase. having one extra outfit is a little back up for just in case. I also hate doing any type of  washing whilst I am away, so an extra outfit is a backup.
